On Sunday, 22nd January 2023, His BEatitude Theodoros II Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria
and All Africa attended the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of St Theodoros of Tyre in Rome.
Before the end of the Eucharistic Gathering His Beatitude was addressed by His Eminence
Polycarp Metropolitan of Italy, to whom he presented an historical depiction of the
aforementioned Saint.
The Primate of the Alexandrian Church thanked His Eminence, in whose person he expressed
both his fraternal feelings and love to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, as well as his condolences
to His Most Holiness Bartholomaios the Ecumenical Patriarch, on the passing to the Lord of hi
beloved sister in the flesh.
Lastly, His BEatitude awarded a metropolitan’s medalion to His Eminence Polycarp, as well as
pectoral crosses to the Parish Priest of the Church the Very Reverend Symeon Katsinas and
the commissioned representative of the Holy See, Monsignor Andrea Palmieri.
Present at the Divine Liturgy were Their Eminences George of Guinea, Gennadios of Botswana,
Savvas of Pittsburgh and Panteleimon of Naucratis, Their Excellencies the Ambassadors of
Greece to Rome Mrs. Eleni Sourani and to the Holy See Mrs Aikaterini Georgiou as well as the
Honourable Mrs Aikaterini Sofianou Lady Archon of the Patriarchal Throne. AT Noon His
Eminence Polycarp of Italy hosted a lunch in honour of His Beatitude.
On the afternoon of the same day, His Beatitude and his entourage were taken on a guided tour
of St Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Afterwards, in nearby Castropolis in Anagni, an honorary event
took place in honor of His Beatitude the Patriarch of Alexandria by the Academia Bonifaciana,
during which he was given an award for the defense of universal ideals and the spread of the
Christian faith. A formal dinner followed.
