On Sunday 23rd March 2014, His Grace Panteleimon, Bishop of Congo-Brazzaville and Gabon met in Pointe-Noire with His Excellency the President of the Republic of the Congo, Mr. Denis Sassou Nguesso.
During the discussions, His Grace expressed to the President the gratitude of the local Church of the Congo, for the support shown by the State to it and the sincere and willing cooperation of all state officials and services with the Bishop.
He particularly thanked His Excellency Mr. Sassou Nguesso for fulfilling the recent request of the Holy Diocese for the granting of two plots of land totaling an area of 10,600 sq m in the birthplace of the President, Oyo, as well as in the town of Makoua, so that the Church which is recognized by the Republic of the Congo can further develop its multifaceted pastoral, missionary and social efforts, throughout the country.
In conclusion, in passing on the wholehearted blessing and gratitude of His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, to Mr. Sassou Nguesso, he told him that the Holy Diocese is willing to construct a school complex on the land offered in the town of Oyo, which will bear the name of the President of the Republic, as a token of gratitude.
His Excellency thanked Bishop Panteleimon. This meeting between His Grace and the President is the second during the period of the past three months.
