THE CELEBRATION OF THE 28 th OCTOBER IN ALEXANDRIA
The national anniversary of 28 th October was celebrated with splendor in Alexandria. In the morning, a Divine Liturgy was served in the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos, after which a Doxology was chanted. In the absence of His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa, in Rwanda, the ceremony was presided over by the His Eminence Panteleimon, Metropolitan of Naucratis and Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, together with His Eminence Narcissus Metropolitan of Pelusium, Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria and His Grace Germanos Bishop of Tamiathus, Head of the Holy Monastery of Saint Savvas the Sanctified.
Present were the representative of the Consulate General of Greece in Alexandria, the First Vice-President of the Greek Community of Alexandria Mr. Andreas Vafiadis, the President of the Hellenic Naval Club and the Association of Greek Scientists of Alexandria Dr Lilika Thlibitis, other representatives of Community authorities and Associations, the teachers and the students of Greek schools et al.
A memorial service and laying of wreaths followed in the forecourt of the Cathedral. The celebration ended with the national anthems of Greece and Egypt.
